American Hustle didn’t live up to its title

American Hustle didnt live up to its title

Nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture, American Hustle stands as what is said to be the best movie of the year. This however, is a bit of an overstatement.

The movie attracted a lot of attention due to the cast and interesting characters.

Actor Christian Bale stars as Irving Rosenfeld, a con artist who is forced to work for FBI agent Richard “Richie” DiMasso, played by Bradley Cooper. Amy Adams’s character, Sydney Prosser, is Irving’s partner-in-crime and British impersonator. Robert De Niro stars as Victor Tellegio, an Italian mobster. Lastly, Jennifer Lawrence captured the audience’s attention with her humorous and unpredictable character as Irving’s wife, Rosalyn Rosenfeld.

Aside from much attention to the popular cast, the title of a “must see” movie of the year was given due to the proposed overall exciting plot of the movie. American Hustle serves as a crime and drama supposedly packed with deceiving plot twists and exciting crime scenes.

Although the movie trailer seemed as if American Hustle was interesting and very much appealing, it did not live up to the standards and expectations of most people. It was surprising to find out that the movie was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and Best Motion Picture.

Yes, the characters themselves were interesting, somewhat funny, and the actors definitely fit the roles they were playing, however, the movie was slow and lacked action. One would think that a movie with a clever story line like American Hustle would be fast paced and mind blowing due to the unpredictable schemes of con artists, but in this case the movie was quite overrated.

American Hustle lacked excitement as the movie progressed. Although it did cause the audience to chuckle here and there, it was quite boring overall. Throughout the movie the humor died out and all there was left was talking on and on and on. As the movie got closer to the climax, it was a bit predictable as to what would happen next.

Aside from American Hustle not living up to its expectations, the movie did however have its interesting scenes. Most of the characters were humorous, especially Jennifer Lawrence. The movie should have done a better job with Lawrence’s character Rosalyn because she did play an important role in story and should have been included in more scenes, which would have created a seemingly better plot.

American Hustle was overrated. It definitely did not live up to its expectations, especially with such an interesting cast like this. The movie had potential to be a lot more interesting, however it lacked action and cleverness behind the schemes and con artistry.
