Every year I get an allergic rash around spring that keeps me in bed and bath for three to five days. During this time, I have all day to think and establish an environment for my mind to rest in. Yesterday, I put jazz on the radio at full blast in three rooms in my house and made breakfast at two o’clock. I, despite my ailment, continue to have every day. It’s not about lack of work or stress but rather the work of finding things to do.

All day is a while if you have a rash. A lot of waiting, bathing, and a lot of thinking about time. The morning is especially nice, seeing the early rays break through the dawn and fill the house with warmth. On the days that I wake up early, I like to make a small breakfast with the back door open and eat outside. When I see the clock, it’s still many hours before noon and that makes me happy. Unfortunately, I fall straight asleep because of the medication I have to take with every meal, so that time is wasted away. But it’s wasted away in dreams and running thoughts.

There is no lesson in this other than everything’s a bonus and have every day. Even know I’m a little incapacitated, I have grown from this as everybody grows from everything they do. Once someone can accept that everything’s a bonus they can begin to have every day, which is simply the pinnacle of lounging.
