Carlmont’s College Counselor Connie Dominguez offered a crash course in college applications for both students and parents on Oct. 12.

Dominguez reviewed the differences between CSU and UC campuses, how and when to apply for each school, the final dates for seniors to take the SAT, and how to apply for scholarships and financial aid.

She also briefly discussed average SAT and ACT scores and average GPAs for all ten of the UC schools.

A number of attendees found the information night to be a very useful source, providing them with the opportunity to have their questions answered as well an overview of what to expect when applying for colleges.

“It was very helpful because I knew nothing about the system. I would definitely recommend this to others. If I had known about it last year, it would have helped my son, who is now a junior, choose his classes for this year,” commented Carlmont parent Julie Grogan-Crane.

However, a few audience members felt that the information night was not crucial to attend.

“I already knew a lot before, so for me it was a review. However, I did learn new things that will be helpful. I think it would have been easier if it was done electronically, and just have a question and answer session instead,” stated Carlmont parent Judy Weinbaum.

“All of the stuff she talked about, she already went over it in class with us, and everything is on Naviance,” agreed senior Nathan Morimoto.
