Election Day: Carlmont’s new leaders

[media-credit id=56 align=”alignnone” width=”300″][/media-credit]Although it took two days, the election results for the 2012-2013 officers have been finalized.

Hundreds of Carlmont students lined up in the quad on Tuesday and Wednesday at lunch to vote for their respected class officers and ASB student body President.

The voting process was originally expected to take only one day, however, not enough votes were submitted on Tuesday.

Despite this small mishap, voting continued on Wednesday at lunch and the results were finalized by the time school got out.

One change in this year’s election process is that two vice presidents, rather than a vice president and a secretary, will serve in office.

Freshman class president James Pak, who wowed the Carlmont student body with his overwhelming “Join the Pak” campaign, claimed victorious once again and will serve as Sophomore class president for the 2012-2013 school year.

“I want to say thank you to the class of 2015 for giving me another year to lead, and I will achieve full representation and communication with all students,” said Pak.

Pak will be joined by Adam Cobb and Amanda Breslaur, who will serve as sophomore class vice presidents.

Current Sophomore class officers Reggie Chatman, Claire Porter, and Claire Noemer will work together once again next year as Junior class officers.

Although Chatman ran unopposed, he remains confident about being Junior class president. “I feel that it is an honor and that people must respect me for the job I do and I will do my best to work hard and make sure the class of 2014 stays the best class at Carlmont,” said Chatman.

Another student who ran unopposed was Jacob Rudger, a junior. Rudger will stand at the podium in June of 2013 to deliver a graduation speech as Carlmont’s Senior class president.

The race for Senior class vice president was extremely close, but juniors Kim Bean and Max McBride came on top.

Another major change in this year’s election was that the two student body vice presidents were to be elected by the executive council, or ASB class, rather than by the student body. The executive council took on the challenge of representing the interests of the student body with their votes.

After the three candidates presented their campaigns to the class, only two could be elected. Monica Chin and Kayla Tabari were chosen to be Carlmont’s student body vice presidents.

The biggest decision of all was made by all classes, Freshman through Junior. These students has the choice between Emily Cox and Luke Li to represent Carlmont as student body president.

Both candidates were very qualified for the position and it showed. The election was extremely close, but Luke Li claimed victorious.

“I’m really excited about becoming ASB President, and hope to foster a school community that is extremely tight-knit, has a lot of school spirit, participates in fun activities, and is accepting of everyone,” said Li.

Every vote counted in this years election, and although it took one more day than expected, Carlmont High School has successfully chosen its student leaders for next year.
