What is Scot Scoop?

Founded in 2010, Scot Scoop is a student-run journalism website by Carlmont High School’s journalism staff. Scot Scoop is a safe, reliable news source for the Bay Area community. All content published is written by Carlmont journalism staff members or the site editors.

What is the difference between The Highlander and Scot Scoop?

Scot Scoop is Carlmont’s online news site and The Highlander is Carlmont’s print magazine. Our printed magazine, The Highlander, publishes six issues per year and offers a deliberative mix of reporting, analysis, criticism, and commentary. Scot Scoop, our website, delivers real-time reporting, giving it a vital presence in the ongoing conversation about the media. Staff members and editors use a variety of tools and methods to produce, edit, and publish content. Scot Scoop uses its open forums, e-newsletter, Facebook page, X account, YouTube page, and Instagram account to update and engage with the public.

Scot Scoop is all about sharing and interacting with the community in respectful ways. Things like predatory behavior, stalking, threats, intimidation, invading privacy, inciting others to commit violent acts, discriminatory harassment includes conduct (written or graphic) directed against any person or group of persons because of their race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, or veteran’s status and that has the purpose or reasonably foreseeable effect of creating an offensive, demeaning, intimidating, or hostile environment for that person or group of persons are taken very seriously. Impersonating another user by copying someone’s exact profile layout, using a similar username, or posing as that person in comments or posts is considered harassment. Content that’s intended to incite violence or encourage dangerous, illegal activities that have an inherent risk of serious physical harm or death is strictly prohibited. Nudity is strictly not allowed, especially if it’s in a sexual context.

Scot Scoop reserves the right to remove content and ban users that violates this agreement, as determined by Scot Scoop in its sole discretion. You acknowledge Scot Scoop reserves the right to investigate and take appropriate legal action against anyone who, in Scot Scoop’s sole discretion, violates this agreement, including but not limited to, reporting such content, conduct, or activity to law enforcement authorities. We encourage free speech and defend everyone’s right to express unpopular points of view, but we don’t permit harassment or hate speech. Users shouldn’t feel threatened when they’re on Scot Scoop.
