People everywhere were waiting in anticipation for the unveiling of Apple’s new iPhone 5, and the excitement continues as people wait to hold their new iPhones as early as Sept. 21.

Apple released the iPhone 5 on Sept. 12 with new and updated features, at midnight people were able to start pre-ordering. iPhones are expected to be delivered on Sept. 21, the same day that Apple stores will officially start to carry the new phone.

Carlmont sophomore Andrew Wach stayed up until midnight so he could be one of the first to order. Wach can’t wait for his phone to arrive. “I’m so excited for my phone to come because everything has been updated and it’s now the best smartphone in the world.”

The new iPhone 5 doesn’t seem to have disappointed many people. The first day of pre-orders reportedly brought in two million phone sales and orders have already backed up.

Many changes have been made to the iPhone since the iPhone 4s. Apple stated that their new phone is 18 percent thinner, 19 percent lighter, has a four-inch retina screen, and a more protective sapphire camera lens. Internally, the iPhone 5 has a new faster chip that is supposed to make the phone two times faster than the last generation.

The unveiling of the new iPhone 5 was closely followed by the release of iOS 6 for all Apple devices. The iOS 6 update includes a better Siri, map system, mail, panoramic photos, and Passbook to keep tickets on the phone.

Emma Lin, a sophomore at Carlmont, is not only excited for the new phone but also for the new software. “The iPhone 5 is the best thing to be invented since sliced bread and with iOS 6 it’s even more awesome.”
