2012 is set to be a huge year for video games, with tons of new technology and effects. Here are the top five most anticipated games of 2012, based on storyline, effects, and new technology:

5. Guild Wars 2: A Budding Obsession (PC)

From the developers at Arena Net comes a new MMO that resembles World of WarCraft. Guild Wars 2, unlike most of today’s MMO’s, is more based on smarter player engagement, rather that the complicated systems that W.o.W. requires such as guilds and raids.

4. Halo 4 (Xbox)

In one of the most popular first person shooting games, Master Chief returns in the new trilogy of Microsoft’s single more important gaming franchise. Fans are excited for the new map packs that were so well received in previous releases.

3. Assassin’s Creed 3 (PC, PS3, Xbox)

Last year’s release of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, introduced a new game style. This year, fans are excited to see the end of this trilogy. The game is rumored to feature the end of Desmond’s story and a cycle system that ends in December 2012.

2. Mass Effect 3 (Pc, PS3)

When Mass Effect 2 came out in 2010, it was the easy winner in the game of the year contest. Since then, Mass Effect fans have been teething for the end of the trilogy to come out. Introducing online co-op missions, this RPG is sure to best it’s predecessor.

1. Bioshock Infinite (PC, PS3, Xbox)

In the third game of the Bioshock series, the setting changes from an underwater environment to the floating city of Columbia in the year of 1912. Booker DeWitt, a disgraced former private detective will have to navigate the cities streets and alleyways to solve it’s mysterious history. The game is to feature top of the line imagery and introduce new forms of combat, including flying battles.
