Many people consider band T-shirts to be a good look and a way to express their musical interests.

Sophomore Viviana Tsangaropoulos said, “I think it’s kind of a way to support the bands they listen to. It’s also a way to connect with people who like the same music.”

Another reason why people wear band T-shirts is that they like the design on them. People think of band T-shirts as more of a fashion statement now.

“People wear band T-shirts to show support for the band and to display to others that they listen to that type of music,” said sophomore Natalie Stainton. “Then there are the type of people who wear band T-shirts because it looks cute when they don’t even listen to that type of music.”

Many of the band T-shirts that people wear are for old rock and roll bands like ACDC or The Beatles. People think that those are the “cool” bands to listen to. Society is always creating new things that people feel like they are obligated to follow just to fit in with everyone else. When listening to older music started regaining popularity, the trend of wearing their merchandise did too.

Stainton said, “People listen to that type of music now and wear those clothes because they are just trying to keep up with the latest trends.”

Band T-shirts are available in popular stores such as Forever 21 and Hot Topic. It is very easy to access them, which could be a reason why so many people are wearing them.

People wear band T-shirts even if they don’t even listen to the music. Tsangaropoulos said, “That’s something that is actually one of my biggest pet peeves. It’s their way of trying too hard to connect. It makes me mad when they have no idea whose merchandise they’re wearing.”

People don’t have to follow what society says, even if everyone else does. People should only wear the T-shirts of bands that they know.

Sophomore Caitlin Caslow, “It’s pointless when people who don’t even listen to the music wear the band T-shirt because they are just wasting their money. It makes no sense to me why someone would wear them if they don’t even know the type of music that certain band plays.”

Band T-shirts are becoming a more popular fashion statement and more people are starting to wear them, either to represent a band they enjoy or to fit in with the rest of society.
