Seniors left without lockers

Seniors+left+without+lockers+

Every school year all students are given a locker on campus, but this year was different because seniors were left without lockers.

For the first time in years, lockers were only issued to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Seniors are responsible for carrying all their binders and textbooks to classes without having a place to store them.

Many seniors feel that this is unfair. “This is ridiculous and [seniors] should not have to break our backs and carry everything  just because we are older. We have as many books as freshmen,” commented Jenna Castillo, a senior student affected by the locker change.

Although seniors were not automatically given a locker, seniors could request a locker from the office until all the lockers were distributed. But seniors were not given the same locker they had become accustomed to the past three years.

Castillo added, “It stinks that we don’t get the same locker that we had. For example I was in C-hall the last three years but now I am in E-hall.”

This decision to not issue seniors lockers automatically to seniors was a decision made by the administration months ago because it was written in our school planner that was distributed the first day of school.

“The feeling is we give the lockers to lower class men because they have more books then seniors,” stated Robert Fishtrom, Carlmont High School’s Instructional Vice Principal.

Hopefully next year all students will be issued lockers, even if one student has two textbooks and another has four.
