A three level garage lies below the building, with additional spaces for bicycle parking. This contributes to the buildings minimal footprint, as no additional parking structures are needed.

According to Redwood City planning documents, the new building was designed to provide capacity for an increasing number of patients. It also replaces an older seismically vulnerable building.

The project was approved by the Redwood City Planning Commission in 2018, and is part of a greater plan to modernize the campus. The building opens to the public on April 27, 2021.

In the past, many medical services were scattered across the campus in different buildings. Comprised of four levels, the building will house many of them in one place.
