Women’s tennis bounced out of CCS

Pareesa Darafshi reflects on the tennis season

After a season that showed promise, Carlmont’s tennis season ended in the second round of the Central Coast Section tournament.

After winning the first round match, their second round match up with the Saint Francis High School Lancers at Cuesta Park in Mountain View ended in a 14 matches to 4 loss.

“The season was great we were in first for most of it and played really strongly throughout most of the season,” said number one singles player Cori Sidell.

The format of CCS is different than other matches throughout the season. Numbers one, two, and three singles played all three of their opponents one, two, and three singles. The same works for doubles.

“We played the third seed, so obviously they were a pretty good team. I think I played pretty well against their number one who is a really good and top ranked player,” continued Sidell. “I think we tried our hardest and we had a lot of fun.”

Carlmont went on to change up their line up strategically by putting their number two and three singles players, sisters Veronika and Tereza Dvorakova, to doubles to play with each other in the double category which moved sophomore Pareesa Darafshi into the number two singles spot and junior Michelle Guan into the number three spot.

The switch was thought to give an advantage in the doubles category while still having great talent in the singles spots. The Dvorakova doubles team ended up losing  while Guan ended up winless and Darafshi won one of her three matches.

Carlmont finished the season coming in second in their division getting the second round of CCS. The promise they showed they hope they can use for years to come.
