Combining two classic treats, Bubble & Wrap satisfies a sweet craving by wrapping flavorful scoops of ice cream in warm waffles.
Located amongst the bustling area of downtown Redwood City at Broadway and Jefferson Ave., Bubble & Wrap attracts many customers on both warm and cool days.
Although the most popular menu items combine the simple treats of ice cream and waffles, the way in which they are combined is what makes Bubble & Wrap so unique. Rather than normal-looking waffles, the waffles appear to have convex bubbles — easy to pull off with your fingers and pop in your mouth.
These waffle bubbles come in plain, matcha, and chocolate flavors and serve as the cone for the yummy and dense ice cream that fills the middle. Most wraps begin with an ice cream base including flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, cookies and cream, or matcha.
The most popular menu item is also the first on the list: The Churro Wrap. The waffle itself is cinnamon flavored and is filled with vanilla ice cream. It is then topped with whipped cream, bananas, a chocolate drizzle, and a sprinkling of cinnamon sugar.
My choice off the menu was the Berries and Cream Wrap. The original-flavored cone is filled with delicious, vibrant strawberry ice cream, fresh-cut strawberries covered in a strawberry sauce, whipped cream, sprinkles, and a strawberry glaze.
Although the store itself was small, the bright teal walls, mirrors, and upbeat music made the experience from ordering to finishing my cone an enjoyable one. After waiting a short five minutes in the welcoming space, the employee was gracious enough to bring me my wrap at my table.
In addition to sweet wraps, Bubble & Wrap includes a savory menu. Waffles are stuffed with cheese and garlic and filled with ingredients such as chicken, avocado, cheese, bacon, eggs, and vegetables for a lunch or dinner option rather than a dessert.
All sweet wraps cost $7. Yes, a single scoop of ice cream at your local Baskin Robins costs $2.79, but it does not come wrapped in a warm waffle covered in whipped cream and a chocolate drizzle. And all savory wraps cost $6, the same as a foot-long sandwich at Subway.
