On the nights of Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11, the Carlmont Student Union was turned into a hoedown.

The Carlmont choir students performed in their annual dessert theater fundraiser, entertaining guests with many songs as other choir students milled around and served the guests unlimited amounts of country named desserts and drinks, such as “Jailhouse Jigglers” and “Cow Pie”.

Songs were performed with a country music theme this year, with a variety of different types of country songs being performed in front of the audience.

Lindsay Hendershott, a sophomore who performed two songs including the funny “Goodbye Earl,” said, “It was fun getting to perform in front of my peers.”

James Baskerville agreed, “It’s fun, although the lights are really bright. It makes me nervous at first but it’s OK when I’m perfoming because I’m in a large group so it’s fun.” Baskerville performed “Ring of Fire” with several other Carlmont boys in the final performance of the night.

Emceeing the shows were two Carlmont seniors, Camryn Jones and Garv Manocha, who both wore over the top cowboy costumes and gigantic hats in addition to introducing the performers and cracking jokes. Pranks were also played, including a “shootout” with Silly String complete with western music in the background.

“I had a lot of fun, and I’m more excited than nervous right now,” said Tarah Tupou when asked just before she was about to perform on Saturday night. “Performing and singing is fun, I’m really excited.”

The Carlmont choir students hold this every year as a fundraiser for the program. Next year, it is planned to be a night filled with Grammy and Tony winning songs.
