After weeks of infighting that paralyzed the House of Representatives, Republicans have banded together to elect conservative Mike Johnson to Speaker of the House. Johnson is strongly anti-LGBTQ, has funded legislation that has attempted to bar the discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity to children under 10, opposes funding for the war in Ukraine, and supports a nationwide abortion ban. He was also involved in the attempt to overturn the 2020 election. (Shiyo Ohashi)
