The movie Lincoln has several good aspects, such as great actors and directors, but it is just too boring for the average high school student.
With the target audience being adults, it is clear that many teenagers would think this movie is too boring and has too much dialogue, but it is a must go for history lovers with all of its historically accurate details.
“I thought the movie had good actors, but it was kind of boring,” stated Adelyn Yao.
The movie is about Abraham Lincoln and his attempt to pass an amendment abolishing slavery. The movie takes place during the Civil War, when the North fights against the South, and the South trys to secede from the Union.
As the movie progresses, Lincoln, played by Daniel Day-Lewis, desperately attempts to ratify the Thirteenth Amendment, in any way he can including bribery, and lots of persuasion.
Eventually the amendment is passed, with only a handful of surplus votes, and slavery is abolished in the United States.
Shortly after, Lincoln is shot in Ford’s theater, and an era of American history is complete.
“Lincoln seemed pretty accurate, historically, so I knew Abraham Lincoln would die in the end, but it was still sad when it happened in the movie,” commented Yao.
The historical accuracy of this film can be attributed mostly to the world famous director, Steven Spielberg.
Overall, the movie is great for people interested in history, but lacked action and is too long for most students.
