Cartoon: Pack mentality

Conformity refers to the tendency for individuals to adjust their beliefs or behaviors to align with the norms of a group. Teenagers are some of the most susceptible age groups due to factors such as brain development, hormonal changes, and identity. This social influence can stem from a desire for acceptance, fear of rejection, or the perception that the group possesses superior knowledge. The term ostracism embodies the detrimental effects of being excluded from a group or society, affecting their emotions, cognition, and physical health. However, it’s essential to understand that while humans have a biological drive to form social groups, civilization is built from a diverse array of people. Often, teenagers get absorbed by compliance during their search for identity, which occurs in adolescence. By building self-confidence and understanding of one’s morals and ethics, it’s crucial to stay true and to resist conformity pressures and groupthink. (Skylin Lui)
