Carlmont students are not the only ones that enjoy their lunches.Just one of many tables left cluttered with trash after lunch.According to the EPA, in 2012, Americans generated about 251 million tons of trash and recycled and composted almost 87 million tons of this material.
“The point of the basketball garbage cans is to influence students to throw away their trash in a fun, positive manner,” said sophomore leadership class member Matt Irwin.A group of Carlmont students ignore a pile of trash right next to them.“I am at Carlmont cleaning up garbage from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.,” said school janitor Victor Kottinger.“The mess we [Carlmont students] leave after lunch is really gross. I think that if we reduced our trash we would also get rid of our bird problem,” said sophomore Sydney Adair.
