Carlmont’s varsity baseball team took on the Sequoia Cherokees on Wednesday, May 11 for their last home game of the season.

After back to back losses against Burlingame last week, the Scots bounced back with a victory against the Cherokees.

Pitcher Daniel Madigan was dominant on the mound, pitching a shutout and striking out eleven.

The Scots’ offense started off strong in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to a double by catcher Colton Hicks that allowed Madigan to score.

Their momentum carried into the top of the second inning, with three quick outs. In the bottom of the second, second baseman Gabe Belnick scored the second run of the game due to a single by shortstop Kyle Barret.

The Scots had another chance to score a run in the bottom of the sixth. Two consecutive hits from outfielders Justin Fink and Nic Bongi seemed as if the Scots were sure to put another run on the board, but Fink was thrown out at home.

The Scots’ solid defense prevented Sequoia from scoring any runs. Two notable plays included second baseman Belnick who blocked a ground ball and recovered to throw out the runner at first and Madigan who dove and gloved a popped up bunt near the first base line then jumped up to throw out the runner returning from second for a double play.

Carlmont’s overall record improved to 17-8. The last game of the season is on Friday, May 13 at Sequoia at 3:15 pm.
