The American Red Cross provides snacks and water for the donors.  Sophomore Zade Vela grabs a snack after donating blood for the first time. My friends were doing it, and I thought it would be fun. I will definitely do it again next year, said Vela.

While getting his blood drawn, senior Sergiy Holmer listens to music to distract himself. There was an increase of 15 donors between the first and second blood drive. Its not a huge increase, but its still something. If there are only 15 more donors, thats  45 more lives potentially saved, said Irwin.

This group of American Red Cross workers travel all over the Bay Area to host blood drives. Almost every day they are at a different school. High school and college students are two of their biggest demographics.

Sophomore Izzy Mitchell and junior Matt Irwin help check students in before they start the donation process. For the first time, Carlmont hosted two blood drives in one school year, which allowed more students to participate. The American Red Cross requires donors to be older than 16 years old. More students were eligible for donating for the second blood drive, because more students had turned 16 years old.
