As many Carlmont students know, WASC will be visiting Carlmont from Feb. 27 to Feb. 29.

WASC, the Wester Association of Schools and Colleges, visits schools in California to determine if they are a reliable place for education. These schools then become accredited.

If schools fail to become accredited, then many colleges will not accept the students from those schools.

Carlmont has conducted many surveys to create a self-study report on many things such as the rate of male versus female students, the percentage of enrollment by demographic, and the number of suspension and expulsion.

This school was last visited six years ago when WASC members accredited the school and allowed for a six year gap until the next evaluation.

Although many students were unaware, there have been many meetings and work done in preparation for these three days over the past couple of years by both faculty and students.

Junior Jenny Gross commented, “I feel that it puts a lot of pressure on everyone because it is so important that our school gets accredited so all the students can get accepted into college.”

While some feel the pressure to impress these new guests, other think it will just be a normal couple of days.

Junior Hallie Freitas stated, “The teachers at school make WASC seem really important, but Carlmont seems like a school that will get accredited, so I do not think they expect anything out of the ordinary.”

Whether students think WASC will be stressful or not, they will be coming to view Carlmont as it is in its normal state.
