San Mateo County Libraries

The San Mateo County Libraries provide accessible resources for kids, teens, and families regarding education, play, social life, and general information. The libraries have been at Celebrate the Music for the last few years and recognize it as one of the biggest opportunities to connect with the community. “When it comes down to our core goals, meeting our community is the best way to stay in touch. We have outreach events that happen every single week that connect people to resources while our library is closed,” said David Vargas, a senior librarian at the Belmont Library. “Being able to provide hands-on activities to complement the music that’s happening is important to keep music in schools,” Vargas said.

Carlmont Music Boosters

Carlmont Music Boosters is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing financial and logistical support for the instrumental music program at Carlmont High School. Celebrate the Music is a valuable event to spread awareness about the donation drive, which funds sheet music, instruments, teachers, etc. At the end of Celebrate the Music, Carlmont High School musicians also participate in a musical battle with college students. “I think it’s great for our Carlmont students to chat with them about the college experience,” said Kim Bishop, the president of Carlmont Music Boosters. “I also think it’s great for our high school students to see the younger students and show them where they can go with their music career.”

Carlmont High School & Menlo-Atherton High School Robotics

Carlmont High School’s robotics team, Deep Blue Robotics, and Menlo-Atherton High School’s robotics team, FRC Team 766, come together every year to do robotics demonstrations at Celebrate the Music. This year, Deep Blue Robotics showcased Leviathan, a robot that picks up PVC pipes. “We're trying to get the younger generation more interested in robotics by giving kids the ability to drive the robot around and interact,” said Aarav Parihar, the Chief Operations Officer of Deep Blue Robotics. This mission was agreed upon by Hunter Cabral, a member of FRC Team 766. “It’s important to try to spread the ideals of STEM and engineering to the community and younger kids," Cabral said.

Belmont Water Dog Run

Belmont Water Dog Run (BWDR) is an annual fundraiser run that raises money for youth education initiatives in Belmont. With over 1000 runners every year, BWDR has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for schools and music programs. At Celebrate the Music, BWDR is able to connect with its target audience in person. “Our parents and their kids and students, they’re all at Celebrate the Music, so the people who care about the communities are all there. We form relationships with the people who run Celebrate the Music and other people who have booths at the event,” said Huan Phan, the head of the BWDR high school intern team.

Footsteps Child Care

Footsteps Child Care is a non-profit organization that serves child and youth development from infants to middle schoolers in Belmont, Redwood Shores, San Mateo, and Redwood City. With various after-school and summer programs, Footsteps Child Care has been showing up to Celebrate the Music since the very beginning. “My children who are now adults were part of band and choir,” said Karen Haas-Foletta, the executive director and founder of Footsteps Child Care. “I think it’s a fantastic opportunity for the community to get together and discover resources," Haas-Foletta said.

Belmont Police Department

Many people are unaware of what the Belmont Police Department does, but their officers are responsible for protecting the lives and safety of all the civilians in Belmont. “It’s our job to pass along public safety information, and we want to take the opportunity whenever possible for families to be safe,” said James O'Connor, a police corporal from the Belmont Police Department. “It allows them to ask us questions about what we do here and give them information about the county they live in.” O’Connor particularly enjoys the craft of the musicians and the interactions with people at his booth.
