Small businesses to visit in the Bay Area

The pandemic has shown that supporting small businesses is important to keep the stores open, but it also helps bring communities together. Below are eight special shops in the Bay Area with treasures that can’t be found anywhere else.

Mints & Honey

Located in San Carlos, Mints & Honey is the perfect cafe to go to on the weekend. The food served is as aesthetically pleasing as the interior design, with variations of desserts, teas, and toasts. The neighborhood cafe offers outdoor seating and sources their food from local bakers.

Tokenz

Tokenz is a crystal store located in Half Moon Bay. Not only do they sell real gemstones, but also jewelry, incense, and carvings. For anyone interested in healing crystals or how to use them, Tokenz is a great store to begin at. 

Mud Witch 

Mud Witch is a pottery business run by Viviana Matsuda; their shop is based on the website and Instagram. The handmade mugs, vases, and dishware are unique to their own color and design. The glazed ceramic creations are great statement pieces and decorations and are useful. 

Shelby’s Garden 

This quaint boutique located in downtown San Carlos is filled with small trinkets and jewelry that each tell their own story. The inventory changes based on season and holiday, so customers will always find something new. Don’t be deceived by the small exterior because Shelby’s Garden contains life-long treasures. 

ReLove

ReLove is a San Francisco-based Black-owned business that opened in 2014. They offer vintage clothes that make outfits unique and personable. ReLove also buys used clothes that they will repurpose for their thrift section. Not only that, but they also provide personal styling appointments to help customers find their next look.

The Reading Bug is a children’s bookstore that also sells toys, music, and accessories. Located in San Carlos, this shop is home to childhood memories and creative decorations that keep kids entertained for years to come.

The Olive Crush 

The Olive Crush is located in San Carlos and Half Moon Bay. They are best known for their olive oil and balsamic vinegar that provide unique flavors for any recipe. The Olive Crush is a great store to find gifts for chefs and food connoisseurs. 

Bow Wow Meow

Located in San Francisco, San Carlos, and Menlo Park, Bow Wow Meow holds items for any kind of furry friend. They offer dog grooming services and treats, toys, and accessories for pets of all kinds.
