Myung Dong Tofu Cabin serving great Korean barbecue

On 2958 S Norfolk St. in San Mateo, Myung Dong Tofu Cabin offers a wide arrange of Korean barbecue ranging from Barbecue Spareribs to tofu stews. The restaurant allows one to barbecue his or her own food or to be served.

I started with panch’an, the small dishes of food served with cooked rice, which consisted of sweet glazed potato, kimchi, pickled daikon, seaweed, bean sprouts, rice noodles, and spicy agar. All of the tastes were spot-on and complimented each other. It has to be mentioned that the rice was a peculiar color, purple, however, this did not change the taste and personally made me like the rice more.

I ordered the Barbecue Chicken, the Barbecue Spareribs, the Seafood Tofu Stew, and the Curry Beef with rice.

The chicken was served while still sizzling. The chicken was a bit dry, but the smokey flavor was perfect and the chicken was still tender.

The spareribs were served the same way as the chicken, but they was moist instead of dry. The spareribs had a smoky flavor and were nice and tender.

The tofu stew came boiling hot and was still bubbling when it came to the table. It contained oyster, clam, shrimp, and tofu. The oysters and clams were cooked just right, so they weren’t tough. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and tasted great with the broth from the stew. The tofu was soft and it felt like my tongue was eating silk as it gently entered my mouth.

Last, I had the Curry Beef which had a mild spiciness. The dish consisted of beef, zucchini, carrots, and rice. The beef and vegetables worked perfectly with the curry sauce.

The service was great and they checked up on me multiple times to make sure I was enjoying my food.

The bottom line, the food and the service was good and I recommend this restaurant.
