Santa Claus is coming to the quad

Christmas is coming early this year as Santa will be making his journey to Carlmont on Dec. 12 at lunch in the quad.

Carlmont’s Associated Student Body will be recreating a winter scene with snow from Belmont Iceland, a holiday backdrop, and a Santa-esque chair, for students to come take pictures and socialize with Santa and his elves.

“I can see how it would be fun for many students. I’ve known for a long time that Santa isn’t real, but this brings Christmas spirit and pep to the school,” said Sydney Adair, a sophomore.

The student dressing up as Santa for this year’s event is currently undetermined, but senior ASB member Amanda Breslauer is one potential candidate.

“I probably will never have a chance to be Santa once I graduate so I thought, ‘Why not try?’ I’m most excited to dress up and spend time in the snow and celebrate this time of year,” said Breslauer.

This event is annual at Carlmont, and generally has the same features as the prior years, continuing the traditional festivities.

“Personally I like tradition in holidays. It’s always good to change things up a little bit, but tradition is nice,” said Adair.

According to Breslauer, this event has been fun and festive for the students at Carlmont in the past years that it has been held, but the student body may not be as engaged this year compared to the previous years.

“I think the biggest challenge this year for planning was that everyone is extremely busy so they might not be as receptive or aware of publicity for the event,” said Breslauer.

Although ASB faces this publicity challenge this year, they are continuing to publicize the event by creating posters as well as releasing a promotional video in several days.

“It comes at a stressful time because of finals, so it’s nice to have a fun activity to lighten the mood,” said Breslauer.
