Cartoon: Columbia University echoes chaos

Student protests are not new for Columbia University in New York City. In 1968, a series of demonstrations on campus was one of many student displays of activism regarding the United States’ participation in the Vietnam War. Back to the present day, starting on April 17, 2024, pro-Palestinian students rallied together on campus to protest against the university’s investment with companies involved with Israel’s military advances in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. With both protests occurring within the same buildings and locations, the repetition of history regarding suspensions, and police involvement, the students’ concern with human rights persists.
