A student frustrated by “unexpected material” blames the class instead of confronting his lazy academic habits. When something goes wrong, such as a bad grade, the instinctive response is deflection. This defensive mindset hinders learning because when teenagers cannot take responsibility for their mistakes, they are unable to recognize how they can improve. To break out of this cycle, teenagers should recognize their own shortcomings and learn from them. (Zane Razzak)
