Cartoon: Another reason to leave

China’s Chang’e-5 space mission yielded an unexpected result: the discovery of water trapped in glass beads on the moon’s surface. Experts estimate that 300 billion-300 trillion pounds of water were trapped inside these shards, explaining why they haven’t evaporated. Experts are further excited over this water supply’s potential for future missions on the moon, opening possibilities of permanent settlement. We should remind ourselves, however, that there are already plenty of issues on our home planet—the destruction of our environment, lack of firearm restrictions, and war—that must be dealt with before making irrational escape plans.
