Cartoon: Here come the adaptations

The Super Mario Brothers Movie,” released in theaters on April 5, has made over $700 million in revenue. Other video-game-to-screen adaptations such as “The Last of Us,” “Sonic the Hedgehog” (2020), and “Wreck-It Ralph” (2012) have proven to garner significant attention. This increasing frequency of said adaptations appearing on the big screen can be paralleled to animated-to-live-action adaptations in which a lack of new storylines in the industry shows a prevailing emphasis on revenue.
