Cartoon: What happens when you gift a child a gun

On Nov. 30, 2021, a 15-year-old boy shot and killed four of his classmates in Oxford Township, Michigan. Two years later, his mother Jennifer Crumbley has been found guilty on charges of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to 15 years in prison. She repeatedly ignored her son’s pleas for help, brushing off concerning texts, drawings of guns, and phrases scribbled in notebooks like “blood everywhere.” The pistol that he used to kill four peers and injure 7 more was gifted by his parents. Parents should be held more accountable for their children’s actions: it is their job to protect them, raise them, and help them when in need. Above all, it’s the job of parents to keep their children from dangering themselves and others. (Shiyo Ohashi)
