Cartoon: Plastic thoughts

Scientific evidence from early 2024 shows drastic amounts of microplastics accumulating in vital human organs, including the brain, lungs, and even bone marrow, raising hefty concerns about health and safety issues. A study in the brain shows that a measure of 0.5% plastic by weight is average. Microplastic exposure has also dramatically increased, with more presence in food, water, and air pollution. The United States plans on strategies to limit plastic pollution; however, currently, no mandate requires monitoring microplastics in drinking water. With the rate at which certain diseases, such as memory function, cardiovascular diseases, and fertility issues, are found to be affected by the amounts of microplastics, it’s a wonder why creating mandates isn’t a top priority.
