Sana’a Cafe in Redwood City recently opened and is one of the many Yemeni coffeehouses that have recently appeared in the Bay Area. These cafes originated in a predominantly Arab area of Detroit and have quickly expanded across the United States. Today, there are about 30 distinct chains and several local locations in the Bay Area. This cafe style sets itself apart by serving as not only a daytime hangout or workspace but also a late-night gathering place. Behind the scenes, staff members work to create a welcoming atmosphere by carefully preparing each menu item, maintaining a clean and elegant space, and engaging with customers to make them feel at home.
