After years of planning that began in 2016, construction on the Carlmont baseball field is expected to begin later this month.
Athletic Director Patrick Smith said the construction plans are focused on making full use of the available space.
Sophomore Anaya Misri explained the benefits of improving the baseball facility.
“Once there is a new and expanded complex, players wouldn’t have to rely on just one main field,” Misri said.
Construction on the new field is expected to begin in late May 2026, with estimated completion around February 2027.
Sophomore Jack Lang noted some improvements that could be made for the construction of the new field.
“Some improvements could be done on the dugouts, because right now they’re kind of small. They would be better if they were more spacious,” Lang said.
Sophomore Kou Miwa also suggested expanding the training facility for his team.
“Maybe they could add a new bullpen or batting cage. That would be cool,” Miwa said.
This new space would not only benefit baseball, but also multiple sports throughout different seasons.
Furthermore, Smith said the facility would accommodate a variety of sports.
“It will be big enough to practice other sports. Soccer, football, flag football, lacrosse, field sports, as well as competitions,” Smith said.
The additional field space would improve issues within the growing sports community at Carlmont. As sports intensify, practice and game times between different teams may overlap.
The expanded field will significantly improve the facilities available for athletes. Smith explained that the project would resolve scheduling conflicts between different events.
“If girls’ lacrosse is a home game, but then girls’ soccer is also a home game, boys’ lacrosse has to practice after those games are done. This practice can be pushed back to late at night, but with the new field, earlier practice times will be offered,” Smith said.
Misri shared similar concerns regarding late practices for athletes.
“A new field would benefit athletes because the current field is often overbooked. It’s hard for teams to find time to practice,” Misri said.
In addition to student use, other groups will have access to this expanded field.
“Outside organizations could rent it out. Our physical education department could use it. And it could be used for student events like freshman orientation,” Smith said.
With the new construction plans, the Scots look forward to better practice opportunities.
“Teams could practice more, and that would lead to better performances overall,“ Miwa said.
