The Carlmont JV boys baseball team achieved a 9-0 win against Capuchino on Wednesday, May 13, at Carlmont High School. The game started with strong energy, which continued throughout the game as players maintained control and put pressure on the opposing team.
The first inning established the game’s initial atmosphere. The Scots gained their points through precise right-side singles, and their players demonstrated disciplined hitting. Carlmont was able to hold onto the lead until the end.
The Carlmont pitcher, sophomore Jeremy Yam, dominated the game, as his performance on the mound prevented any batters from reaching home plate. He only let through four hits the entire afternoon, causing the Capuchino team to struggle to create scoring opportunities.
“It was an outstanding effort by our pitcher,” said head coach Michael Simon.
Fellow teammates supported Simon’s assertion.
“Jeremy pitched a beautiful game. Did great once again,” said freshman Logan Stinson.
As the game progressed, Carlmont used its speed to pressure Capuchino’s defense. The Scots racked up 11 stolen bases, which forced hurried throws and kept the Capuchino infield under constant threat. These extra bases allowed Carlmont to extend its lead, turning a cushion into a blowout.
“I think the highlight was Franco. He went two for two and stepped up when Grammy got injured,” said sophomore Karam Kayali.
The Scots maintained their concentration to complete the final three outs, which resulted in a victory that followed their dominating start. By the seventh inning, the outcome was no longer in doubt, but the intensity on the field remained high. The defense maintained coordination to preserve their shutout, which served as a definitive closing.
The win took on added significance when the final out came, as it marked their penultimate game of the season.
“I’m sad to see the season end because I really enjoyed playing with some of the sophomores on the team that won’t be here next year. It was all-around a really fun season to hang around those guys,” Stinson said.
With one more game on Saturday, the team showcased its development in this performance, which featured aggressive running and pitching. The team will play one more time, but their commanding victory positions them for an important concluding game of the season.
“We need to concentrate more on being serious, because they have a little too much fun in the dugout. But we’ve had a successful season. We’ve lost a few games we should’ve won, but they gave their best effort. That’s all you can ask,” Simon said.
