The Carlmont JV girls softball team defeated the Terra Nova Tigers 13-0 in a dominant performance highlighted by strong hitting and solid defense at home on May 13.
From the beginning of the game, Carlmont set the tone. The Scots came out aggressively at the plate and consistently made contact with the ball. Singles, doubles, and extra-base hits helped build momentum early, allowing Carlmont to increase its lead throughout the game.
One of the biggest moments came in the bottom of the first inning when player Sarah Lin hit an in-field home run that energized both the team and the crowd. The play gave the Scots an early boost of confidence.
“We had a really good game, with lots of line drives,” said coach Sara Cisneros.
Carlmont’s offense remained consistent throughout every inning. The entire lineup contributed offensively. Nearly every batter found a way to get on base, making it difficult for Terra Nova to contain the Scots.
Because of the league’s four-run limit per inning, the umpire had to end multiple innings early after Carlmont reached the maximum number of runs allowed.
“Everyone contributed to our hitting. Everyone was hyping each other up and putting in a lot of energy,” Lin said.
The team’s chemistry and positive attitude were prevalent throughout the game. Players cheered for their teammates and stayed fully engaged from start to finish. According to the players, that support is one of the team’s biggest strengths.
“In softball, everybody does things individually, but the whole team brings it together in the end,” said freshman Emma Morgan.
Freshman pitcher Naya Osorno had a great game. She recorded many strikeouts and kept the Tigers from building offensive momentum. She also had many hits, helping Carlmont propel the score.
Carlmont was also assisted by a few varsity players who moved down to junior varsity because of injuries. Their contributions gave the team extra momentum offensively and defensively.
“A few players came down from varsity. They had some really good hits today, and they contributed on the field,” Lin said.
Despite the lineup changes, Carlmont played with confidence and strong communication. The teamwork, energy, and execution helped the Scots control the game from start to finish, allowing them to secure a win.
“Overall, really great effort all around. It was a great game,” Cisneros said.
