Girls varsity water polo sent their seniors off with a bang for senior day on Wed. Oct. 29.

Wednesday was the last game of the season for the girls varsity team, and for the seniors on the team, it was their last home game playing for Carlmont. To commemorate this occasion, underclassmen and juniors on the team dedicated the game to the seniors.

“[We] just try to let the senior know how much we appreciate them and that they are just the bomb,” said freshman and junior varsity (JV) player Hunter Crawford.

To say goodbye to their seniors, the players made personalized gifts for each senior.

“We made posters that had all the seniors names, and then we had each of our JV girls sign them,” said junior Carly Hunter. “We also made them special shirts that said ‘water polo seniors.'”

The seniors also got buckets filled with gifts like flowers, personalized shirts, and Carlmont colored socks and gloves.

Senior day is a tradition that many Carlmont sports take part in. The last home game of the season honors the players who will be graduating on to pursue their passion outside of Carlmont.

“Senior day is a fun way for the rest of the team to say goodbye to [the seniors],” said senior and boys varsity player Pierre Llorach.

Seniors are often looked at as leaders of the team, and the other players use senior day as a way to thank them by giving them the best last game experience they can.

“Being able to watch them is a huge inspiration,” said Hunter.

After the goodbyes and the gifts had been given out, the varsity team went on the play their last game. The team was full of energy, and beat Woodside 17 to 5.

“[Senior day] helped us be more like a family, and it helped us boost our performance,” said senior Grace Yi.
