$On the first test day at the Road America track in Wisconsin, Abbate suffered a mechanical brake failure and crashed into the wall at 80 miles per hour. As a result, Abbate broke her right ankle, fractured her upper back, and had a herniated disk in her lower back. Despite this, less than seven weeks after her accident, Abbate got back in the car, but the incident has affected her mindset. I did have an issue at my last race. I was at a new track and you had to come into the infield blind, so you couldnt see the corner and it was all concrete walls. It just mentally messed with me because I couldnt bring myself to get in there as fast as everybody else because it scared me, Abbate said.$
