The results of the 2025 Oscars came as a surprise when dialogue-free Latvian film "Flow" became the first indie film to win Best Animated Feature. Previous Pixar employee of 22 years Michael O'Brien says "Flow" is significant for young creatives entering the industry. "I think it is a super exciting time to enter animation as a young animator. You have the world in front of you. There are a bunch of new tools and styles that AI will bring and that will be an opportunity for young people to show us older people what they can do with them. I helped bring computers into animation, and now it’s time for new storytellers to make movies their way," O'Brien said.

Season 3 of Syfy's "Resident Alien" dropped to Netflix this month, revealing a new alien character design. The new season explores comedic and horror elements through its new alien characters. "The first choices are always based on what the story requires; if it’s supposed to frighten the audience, then you must design a frightening alien. It’s also in the word itself—alien. You want something unfamiliar, but the audience should still be able to discern basic features like the head and so forth," said freelance artist Brenda Coady.

With 2024 officially marking 50 years of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), the media is noticing a shift in the game's popularity as D&D is pushed to more mainstream platforms. Evolving technologies are encouraging players to find innovative ways to play online while miles apart, but many feel traditional tabletop D&D will always be a favorite in the community. "The best way I have always found of describing the game is that you get to play through a book with your friends.
