Salvage Grocery Stores

Salvage grocery stores, such as Grocery Outlet, Groceries 4 Less, and Palace Surplus Inc., are a great way to cut both environmental impact and cost. Sometimes referred to as grocery outlets, they are best known for selling unwanted products — from approaching or past expirations to dents and imperfections and out-of-season and overstocked items — for discounts unseen in traditional stores (sometimes up to 50%). By giving products a second chance rather than an immediate trip to the landfill, these stores do their part in reducing food waste.

Before shelving salvaged food, like at a traditional grocery, the government inspects it to make sure items are safe for consumption, however, customers should still take it upon themselves to check products for their own well-being.
