Children and adults go to Vallejo’s Six Flags Discovery Kingdom to enjoy themselves, but Carlmont’s Key Club goes to support the people who can’t.
This past weekend, Key Club attended the Fall Rally North to raise money for the Pediatric Trauma Program. FRN is a spirit rally where over 50 Key Clubs from different schools in Northern California and Nevada come together to support the Pediatric Trauma Program. The schools raised money by auctioning off a lieutenant governor that represented each division in the region.
Sophomore Hannah Higdon, a member of Key Club and an organizer of FRN said, “It was really awesome to see so many people there.”
The Pediatric Trauma Program helps prevent pediatric trauma from resulting in injury or death in children’s lives. They utilize positive influences in the community such as education to ensure that children live happy, healthy, and safe lives.
Junior Brandon Lee, treasurer of Key Club said, “It makes me really happy to see the smile on the kids’ faces and to know I made a good impact on their lives.”
FRN was not only an event that helped raise money for pediatrics, but allowed different Key Clubs to come together and bond in a spirited environment, while working for the same cause.
Sophomore Celeste Hsu, a member of Key Club said, “I had a lot of fun because I got to meet so many different people from different schools who were all there for the same reason.”
Higdon said, “It was a good bonding experience because there were no social boundaries and everybody was really chill.”
Last year, Key Club volunteered at the Second Harvest Food Bank in hopes of reducing the problem of hunger in America.
This year, they plan on attending more social gathering events such as the district convention for Key Clubs.
FRN was able to raise over $3000 for the Pediatric Trauma Program.
