The Dodgeball Tournament, that was previously scheduled for Oct. 30 in the school planner, has been postponed.

No injuries from dodgeball will happen this week.

Although the student planner had “Dodgeball Tournament Begins” on Oct. 30, the event has been postponed until further notice.

ASB has been abuzz with activities throughout October: homecoming, football games, Carlmont Cup, and many others. A dodgeball tournament was supposed to be a part of the October calendar, but due to the many events that ASB had put on, it has been postponed with a promise of its return.

Jim Kelly, the ASB teacher said, “Dodgeball has always been really popular. There’s always a ton of groups that want to play. So, it’s not going to go away. We’re going to figure out a way to get it in [the schedule].”

The dodgeball tournament started when the movie “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” was released in 2004.

“We’ve been doing [the dodgeball tournament] for a long time,” said Kelly. “I watched the movie and said, ‘We should have a dodgeball tournament at Carlmont.'”

Since then, the dodgeball tournament has been an annual event. The high-action game attracts many students each year, making it a important event for ASB and student participation.

“It’s really fun. There’s lots of competition and rivalries, so it’s fun to win,” said Ryan Husky, a junior who has participated in the tournament since his freshman year.

According to Husky, there is a lot of competition and rivalry because each team is attempting to eliminate the others, and how the tournament brackets are set up affects how quickly a team is eliminated.

“If we do single-elimination, your participation could be done in five minutes, and we don’t want that. We want people to participate as much as possible,” said Kelly.

Although dodgeball is one of the most highly participated events at Carlmont’s, many students are unaware of this year’s postponement.

“The dodgeball tournament is usually a gigantic event, so we will probably telling people that the dodgeball tournament has been moved back and when it will take place,” said Junior-Class President Kyle Dimick.

According to Dimick, ASB will begin planning the event starting this week.

“I’m looking forward to this year’s dodgeball tournament because it’s going to be fun,” said Husky.

So don’t dodge out of this event yet. Dodgeball will be back soon.
