Cartoon: When the sun don’t shine

California may have just solved renewable energy’s biggest drawback. While solar power is an excellent method of combating climate change by cutting down on fossil fuels, there has remained one problem: the sun doesn’t shine all day. However, California has now installed giant batteries to harbor the energy generated by the sun for later. Stored in facilities, the batteries help prevent blackouts and compensate for peak electricity hours. More states should follow California’s example in helping to save the planet. (Shiyo Ohashi)
