O.J. Mayo Suspended

The NBA has suspended Grizzlie’s guard O.J. Mayo for violating the leagues anti-drug policy. Mayo tested positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (steroids).

He pleaded that he didn’t know that an over the counter supplement he was taking contained the drug and was very disappointed that he won’t be able to play in the next 10 games.

Mayo was the number three pick in the 2008 draft and is considered one of the leagues young superstars with a bright future.

“It was an honest mistake, but I take full responsibility for my actions

I apologize to my fans, teammates and the Grizzlies organization for regrettably not doing the necessary research about what supplements I can put in my body.” said Mayo in a statement released by the team.

Mayo will continue to practice with the team during the suspension. His teammates and coach have shown full support for him after the mistake.

“O.J. had a lack of judgment but has shown complete accountability,” said his coach Heisley.

This suspension comes at an unfortunate time as the Grizzlies are trying to secure a playoff bid.
