Fans showed up in force to cheer the Lady Scots to victory over the Sacred Heart Prep Gators in three sets Thursday night.
After their practice, the Carlmont football team came to cheer on the volleyball players. Senior Tristan Gasperian called the fans “loud” and “upbeat.”
The Lady Scots won the first set 25-16, being up the whole way. They went down 5-1 early in the second set but came back to win it 25-19. The third set consisted of many lead changes, at one point with Sacred Heart one point away from winning with a score of 24-22. Carlmont then went on a four point unanswered streak, topped off with a game-winning ace by Elena Mateus.
Fan and sophomore Max Lieberman said the game “went down to the wire” and “kept you on the edge of your seat.” Gasperian also called the game “tanktastic.”
Sophomore Elena Mateus said the fans were “really great” and “got us pumped up.”
Carlmont coach Chris Crader said the game was “do or die,” but that it was still “a fun match.” Furthermore, Crader called his team “resilient” and Mateus said they “played their game and the rest fell into place.”
Crader and the Lady Scots are looking forward to their highly anticipated “Battle of Belmont” against Notre Dame High School on Oct. 4. The Lady Scots have won this match the past two years, but it is always a tough match for them.
This is a good start to the season for the Lady Scots and they hope to keep the wins coming.
