The medium sized Taqueria, Lulu’s, is located on Laurel Street in San Carlos near the more southern Starbucks.
Its fresh and delightful assortment of generic Mexican foods makes it the perfect place to either grab a quick bite or to enjoy a sit down meal.
With specialty burritos ranging from the mini super burrito to the Chile Relleno burrito and various other plates like enchiladas and tacos, Lulu’s meets and exceeds the expectations of any acceptable taqueria.
Unlike many Mexican restaurants, this menu contains a good selection of healthy and organic choices to choose from along with the regular menu items.
The salsa bar is well assorted, but the guacamole was far from being up to par. The chips were of strong in texture, but were over salted.
There is a strong children’s menu and the seating is kid friendly making it a good family restaurant.
With friendly service, an average seating capacity, and a flat screen TV, eating in is more enjoyable than the average order out Taqueria. With the door sitting near a smoker friendly area however, the smell of cigarettes seems to waft in at times making it uncomfortable.
I ordered the Chiles Relleno burrito and chicken, pork, and beef enchiladas. Although the Chile Relleno burrito was well cooked, it seemed to be lacking in the spice compartment. The enchiladas were enjoyable, but were a bit small.
Overall the good service and relatively acceptable pricing made up for the slight lack of food quality, which for the most part was enjoyable. Whether you are with your family or planning a more formal event, Lulu’s is a suitable place for a south of the border bite either way.
