In a competitive face-off between Carlmont and Aragon’s varsity girls softball teams, the Dons won 14-0 in a home game on April 24. Despite a strong effort, the Scots ultimately fell short.
The victory brought Aragon to 5-3, keeping them at No. 3 in the league standings. Carlmont, now at 0-7 in league, sits in the No. 8 spot as they head into the second half of their season.
“I think there were high points and low points that we had in the dugout. We definitely could have stayed at a higher level,” said freshman player Micayla Lorber.
The Dons pitcher delivered clean fast pitches throughout the match, which was critical in helping Aragon to settle in for a smooth start and finish. Her efforts helped shift the momentum in favor of the Dons early in the game.
“We emphasize that we have to have good pitch selection at the plate, so we do a lot of hitting,” said Dons head coach Liz Roscoe.
Aragon jumped to an early lead. The Dons came out strong, scoring multiple runs early in the game. By the end of the third inning, the Dons were so far ahead that the Scots began to run out of energy.
“I try to stay as calm as I can because when I can feel the stress, it doesn’t end well,” said Bridget Lee, a Carlmont player.
Carlmont fought hard to make a comeback, but they weren’t able to.
“Something I will focus on is my hitting and my approach to the plate. I think by the time we have our next game, we’ll definitely have improved on a few things from this game,” Lorber said.
The Scots will continue to try their best, no matter the circumstances, and improve their game plan.
“I think we definitely could have had a lot more communication and energy, and we kind of lost that towards the end,” Lorber said.
