The Carlmont High School Scots prevailed over the Sequoia Ravens in a varsity baseball game, winning 7-2 on Friday, April 3, after maintaining a strong lead.
Throughout the game, the Scots controlled the momentum, especially in the early innings, keeping Sequoia off the board and maintaining consistent pitching and defense.
Jacob Shinseki took the mound for Carlmont and managed the first inning well, allowing a leadoff walk but getting Sequoia’s best hitter to pop up and end the threat.
“I was really nervous coming into the game, but overall, I got more comfortable, and we played really well as a team,” Shinseki said.
Carlmont got on the board right away when Lucas Chan doubled to center field. With two outs, Giancarlo Enferadi singled to right, bringing Chan home and giving the Scots a 1-0 lead.
Carlmont extended its lead in the second inning, taking advantage of its hitting and errors by Sequoia. Scots players kept the pressure on as Caden Stinson reached base, stole second, and moved to third on a Sequoia error before scoring on a single. Carlmont players tripled to bring in another run, pushing the lead to 4-0.
“I think we dominated all aspects of the game: pitching, defense, baserunning, offense,” said Carlmont head coach Ryan Hamilton.
Sequoia struggled to recover after the early deficit, though the Ravens continued to compete throughout. According to Sequoia coach Mike Doyle, Carlmont’s early energy made a difference.
“They came out and played a good game and were the aggressor,” Doyle said. “Usually in baseball, the team that plays better wins, and they played better than we did.”
Despite the loss, Sequoia players will focus on improving moving forward.
Looking ahead, Carlmont is confident and ready to carry the momentum from this win into the rest of the season.
“We feel confident moving forward. If we keep playing like this, we can compete with anyone in the league,” Shinseki said.
