The Carlmont Scots JV baseball team won against the Sacred Heart Gators on March 10, with a final score of 8-6.
The game lasted over two hours and went even innings, with the Scots playing only six half-innings after taking the lead.
In the first inning, sophomore player Karam Kayali pitched for the Gators, with no runs scored. The Scots got one run by freshman Lucas Sharff, taking an early lead.
The Carlmont players continued their momentum throughout the fifth inning, where sophomore Jack Lang hit a home run for the Scots. The home run helped Carlmont with a score of 6-4 halfway through the game.
JV coach Michael Simon trained his team well to prepare for this game against the Gators.
“We have been practicing fundamental defense, and we did a pretty good job of doing that today,” Simon said.
Lang ended the game proud of how he and his team played.
Carlmont players use this game as an improvement for the future. Sophomore Jakob Wolff advanced two bases, and he reflected on how to improve for the next games.
“I think we played good as a team, but I could have hit better,” Wolff said.
Both the players and the coach agree that focusing on future games will involve practicing on better clutch hits.
“Next time, we should have better clutch hitting with runners in scoring position,” Simon said.
The Gators ended up being tough competitors against the Scots, but the Scots ultimately secured the victory.
“The other team did pretty good. It was a hard-fought battle because it was very long and it was a high-scoring play,” Wolff said.
Ending on a high note, both the Scots and the Gators combined for 14 runs over seven innings.
