The Carlmont Scots JV baseball team beat the Burlingame Panthers on May 6 by a score of 3-1.
The game lasted seven innings, with the Scots maintaining a strong defense throughout the entire game. Sophomore pitcher Jeremy Yam controlled the mound the entire game, only allowing one run on four hits.
“Today I felt like I was more locked in, more in the moment. I saw some of my pitches working, so I just kept executing them,” Yam said.
The game remained scoreless for the first three innings as both teams struggled to find the momentum batting at the plate. But at the start of the fourth inning, the Panthers broke the deadlock when they loaded their bases and scored a run, briefly taking a 1-0 lead.
However, the Scots responded immediately in the second half of the inning, as freshman William Tadlock scored a run to tie the game at 1-1.
“I feel like getting out of that fourth inning when they score a run, limiting runs there was pretty good,” Yam said.
Following a defensive stand in the fifth inning, the Scots’ offense found a breakthrough in the sixth inning.
Sophomore Karam Kayali started the rally by driving a hit to the outfield and shortly after stealing a base, putting pressure on Burlingame’s defense and coach. He had two hits and one RBI in the entire game.
Both William Tadlock and freshman Robert Tadlock contributed to the comeback, scoring the final two runs of the night to secure the 3-1 victory.“I needed to do a job. Tie game, you know, I needed to get a good hit,” Kayali said.
Head coach Michael Simon said the freshman performed well during the game.
“The freshmen contributed a lot today. William Tadlock scored two of the three runs as a freshman, so we got lots of contributions from freshmen,” Simon said.
Despite the victory, the team noted they need to improve in specific areas, such as bunting and improving the overall hitting consistency, moving forward.
With the win, the Scots improved their league standing to first and look forward to carrying this momentum into their rematch against the Panthers later this week.
