April 24 marks the first day that Carlmont students will take the Standardized Testing and Reporting test.
During this period, students will attend certain classes on certain days. On the first day of testing, students will attend their first, second, third, and seventh period classes once they have taken the first portion of the STAR test. On the second day of testing, students will complete the second portion of the STAR test. Afterwards, they will attend their fourth, fifth, and sixth period classes.
The schedules will be the same for the third and fourth day. On Friday, juniors and freshmen can arrive at school at ten o’clock, while the sophomores must arrive at eight in order to take the history portion of the test. Seniors arrive every day during lunch time.
Junior Shawna McDonough is not looking forward to taking the STAR test.
“I’m not looking forward to them because they actually go on our transcripts now,” said McDonough. “But, I’m excited we get to go to school at ten o clock on Friday”
Similar to McDonough’s views, freshman Dominique Ramos is dreading the day of the STAR test.
“I think it is very stressful,” said Ramos. “But on the other hand, I’m glad it is condensed down to four days instead of two weeks.”
Only freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will participate in the testing. Seniors do not take the STAR tests.
Senior Jason Wong is one of the seniors who doesn’t have to take the STAR test.
“It feels pretty good know that I don’t have to wake up early and can catch up on my sleep,” said Wong.
Like Wong, senior Julian Gioffre will also not be taking the STAR test.
“It’s a huge relief knowing that I don’t have to go through all that testing again.” said Gioffre.
To prepare for the STAR test, students must study hard and get a good amount of sleep before the test. Testing lasts from April 24 to April 27.
