Carlmont came out victorious with a 3-0 preseason win against Leigh High School on Tuesday night.
Center midfielder Theo Fédronic started off the game with a goal, quickly followed by another goal from senior Jake Retchless in the first half.
Both teams traded shots in the second half, and the score remained 2-0 until junior Nathan Rosenthal picked up the team with the final goal, ending the game with a score of 3-0.
“The fact that we beat them 3-0 made [the game] a solid performance, especially after the close game we had with [Leigh] last year,” said Fédronic. “We’re starting to play better together [as a team].”
“We played well,” said goalkeeper Jared Fitzpatrick. “We had some trouble connecting at the beginning of the game, but we came together and [were able to] put the ball in the back of the net.”
The game was a positive step up for the team after a 1-0 loss to St. Francis.
“We’re making progress from St. Francis,” said Coach Jodi Beloff.
As for thoughts on the approaching season, team members overall felt they are starting to come together as a team.
“It started off a little shaky, but we’re starting to play a lot better,” said Fédronic. “It should be a good season.”
“Our team is coming together,” said Fitzpatrick. “I think [going into league] we will be playing well and more confidently in ourselves.”
In regard to the team’s progress, Beloff said, “We’re right on schedule. [The team] is exactly where I want them to be at this point in the season.”
Carlmont plays Thursday, Dec. 12 against Archbishop Mitty in San Jose.
